Overweight & obesity are the terms formally used to describe individuals with increased fat. This is also defined in terms of BMI (Body Mass Index) measured as Kg /Sq.m.

BMI ranges in adults:

  • Accepted range: 18.5 - 24.9
  • Overweight: 25.0 - 29.9
  • Obese: 30.0 - 39.9
  • Morbidly Obese: greater than 40.0

The basic energy requirement in most cases is approx 2000 cal / day for women and 2500 cal/ day for men. Additional calories may be essential depending on the physical activity of the person or in conditions like pregnancy and lactation.


  • Imbalance between the energy intake and its expenditure.
  • Sedentary life style with minimum physical activity.
  • Excessive alcohol intake.
  • Certain conditions like hypothyroidism etc.
  • Hereditary factor.

Women typically tend to collect more fat in their waist and buttocks. Men on the other hand store fat around their bellies.

Obesity is more a health hazard than a mere cosmetic problem. Obesity leads to several serious problems like high B.P., Diabetes, Heart diseases, etc. It is also associated with different types of cancers in both men and women.

Should I change my diet when I undergo cellulite therapy?
